Erwin G. Baker was born March 12, 1882 near Lawrenceburg, IN and is the only famous auto racer who never won a major race. His specialty was driving cross-country, usually for a manufacturer who wanted to demonstrate the speed and durability of a new vehicle. He was a motorcycle racer for the Indian factory team and won the 10-mile national championship at Indianapolis Speedway in 1909.
