Born October 27, 1939 in Rocky Point, NC, Richard Brickhouse began making a name for himself on the dirt tracks near is home. He did so well, in fact, that Dub Clewis, owner of a Leland, NC dirt track decided the two would go Grand National racing. They headed to Petty Enterprises where they bought a year old Plymouth GTX for $7,500 and decided to go to the upcoming Rockingham race.
