Born August 11, 1929 in Lynchburg, VA, Earl Brooks fought the good fight in Winston Cup racing for over a decade. He was both car owner and driver at times during his career, and along with Ned Jarrett, is credited with being instrumental in helping Wendell Scott in his battle to remain competitive in Grand National racing. Brooks began racing in the Grand National division in 1962 and he competed as a driver until 1977. From 1972 through 1977 he competed in a handful of races, but from 1967 until 1971, he was a fixture at a majority of the events. In his 262
