Joe Eubanks, one of the pioneers of stock car racing, was born August 9, 1925 in Spartanburg, SC. He made his Grand National debut in l950 at the age of 24, driving a self-owned Mercury in the Southern 500 at Darlington. He qualified 21st in the 75-car field and finished 19th. In 1951, he ran a total of 12 races in Hudsons and Oldsmobiles owned by Phil Oates and the Oates Motor Company.
